' Mould Removal '

Mould is a persistent challenge for properties across Queensland and Northern NSW, where the climate provides ideal conditions for fungal growth. High humidity, especially during the summer months from November to March, combined with significant rainfall events, creates constant moisture loads that building materials struggle to handle.

At Rapid Restoration, we don’t offer simple “mould cleaning.” We provide structured mould remediation tailored to the specific issues affecting local homes.

A successful outcome isn't just about removing the visible growth; it's about returning the entire affected area to a normal fungal ecology. Our process is methodical, documented, and based on established building science principles.
Initial
Assessment

Our process begins with an assessment by an IICRC-certified technician. They will identify the extent of visible contamination and, more importantly, the moisture source fueling it. We use calibrated moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to detect non-visible moisture trapped in wall cavities, under flooring, and within ceiling spaces. This step helps determine if the issue is a “Condition 1” (normal fungal ecology), “Condition 2” (settled spores), or “Condition 3” (active growth), which dictates the entire remediation strategy. This assessment is critical for developing a tailored remediation plan that addresses the specific needs of your property.

Mould
Removal

The IICRC S520 standard is clear: the primary method for remediation is the physical removal of mould, not just killing it with a chemical. For non-porous surfaces like tile and metal, we use manual cleaning techniques with specialized, non-toxic cleaning agents. For porous materials like plasterboard, insulation, and soft furnishings that have been colonised by mould, removal and disposal are often necessary as the hyphae (roots) grow deep into the substrate, making surface cleaning ineffective. Our technicians physically detach and remove the mould growth, rather than just applying a biocide that leaves the allergenic and toxigenic matter behind.

Surface Cleaning and Treatment

After the physical removal is complete, we conduct a detailed cleaning of all surfaces within the containment zone. This includes HEPA vacuuming to capture any remaining settled spores. For an additional level of assurance, particularly for clients with health concerns or for insurance purposes, we can arrange for independent post-remediation verification (PRV) testing. This involves air and surface sampling by a third-party environmental hygienist to confirm the area has returned to a normal fungal ecology (Condition 1).

Air
Purification

After source removal, the air within the containment still holds a high concentration of spores. We continue to run HEPA air scrubbers until air quality returns to a normal level. If the property’s HVAC system was operating during the mould growth period, or is located within the affected area, it requires separate decontamination. We inspect and clean ductwork, coils, and blower fans to prevent the system from becoming a source of re-contamination for the entire property.

HVAC
System Cleaning

Mould can easily spread through a property’s Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system. The moist, dark environment inside air handlers and ductwork is a prime breeding ground. We inspect and, if necessary, decontaminate the HVAC system to eliminate this potential source of re-contamination. This critical step ensures the air circulating through your home or business is clean and not contributing to ongoing air quality issues.

Moisture
Control

Remediation is incomplete if the underlying moisture problem isn’t fixed. Our team identifies the water source that allowed mould to grow in the first place, whether it’s a plumbing leak, blocked gutters causing overflow into the eaves, or high indoor humidity from poor ventilation in a modern, airtight apartment. We provide clear recommendations and can coordinate necessary repairs to prevent recurrence. This could involve improving bathroom ventilation, suggesting the installation of a dehumidifier for a damp sub-floor, or advising on drainage improvements around the property’s foundation.

Choosing a remediation contractor in a high-demand area requires careful consideration. Our approach is defined by our commitment to industry standards and a deep understanding of local conditions.

Accordion Content

Our lead technicians hold current certification from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) as Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians (AMRT). This isn’t a weekend course; it’s intensive training in the ANSI/IICRC S520 standard, covering microbiology, containment procedures, safety protocols, and proper removal techniques. This ensures the advice you receive and the work performed on your property are aligned with the industry’s highest standard of care.

We have direct experience addressing the unique mould scenarios found across Queensland and Northern NSW. This includes managing condensation in high-rise apartments, tackling dampness in the sub-floors of canal homes, and addressing poor ventilation in 1970s brick homes. Our knowledge of local building materials and how they react to sustained humidity and salt-laden air allows us to diagnose problems accurately.

We use equipment from trusted restoration brands designed for professional remediation. Our inventory includes commercial-grade LGR (Low-Grain Refrigerant) dehumidifiers from manufacturers like BlueDri, HEPA air scrubbers from XPOWER and Rensair, and advanced moisture detection tools. Using placeholder terms like “the best technology” is easy; we believe in specifying the tools we use to demonstrate a professional commitment to achieving a measurable result.

The health and safety of your family or employees are our primary concern. Our technicians follow strict safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like P2 respirators, gloves, and disposable coveralls. By establishing proper containment and negative air pressure, we manage the remediation process to prevent cross-contamination and ensure the indoor environment is left in a safe, clean condition.
